FastingYou would be surprised how many ask the question, 'how do I fast?' When you start explaining to them that fasting has to do with an abstinence of food, you should pray and read scripture, and maybe even sacrifice pleasures, they seem to know about these things. But, when you start explaining how we need to keep our fasting endeavor a secret from others and appear not to fast, some don't know what you are talking about. The Bible gives us guidelines to follow when we fast. One of them is to tell our spouses and not to let others know who doesn't need to know according to the below scripture in Matthew chapter six. The reason is very clear that we should want God to reward us instead of getting recognition from others. If you seek recognition from others that will be all the reward you receive. Follow God's guidelines and receive blessings fit for kings. Are we not made kings and priests unto our Heavenly Father by Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior (Revelation 1:6, 5:10)? Apparently, some understand fasting, but not the secretive part. Sometimes we may fast with others for specific reasons or form a group to enhance focused intercession. This is good as long as it stays within your group. One of the hardest things to fight is pride and some people just have a lot of problems with the flesh in this area. Maybe this would be a good reason to fast with someone else to hold you accountable to secrecy to please God and reap the blessings He desires to give. So, how do I fast? There should be a partial to total abstinence of food, prayer, Bible reading, sacrificing pleasures and entertainment, and of course, secrecy to perform a biblical fast.

"But when you fast, perfume your head and wash your face, So that your fasting may not be noticed by men but by your Father, Who sees in secret; and your Father, Who sees in secret, will reward you in the open." Matthew 6:17-18 (AMP)
